Annual Report 2016-17

Distinguished guests, respected parents, my dear colleagues and students,

I have great pleasure in presenting this report before you. Our college is one among the prestigious Teacher Education Colleges directly run by the University of Kerala and established in 1990.

The college reopened on 1st July with a total strength of forty eight students in II year class. Five optional viz, Malayalam, Hindi, Mathematics, Physical science and Natural science were present.The I year B.Ed classes began on 13th July 2016 and the total strength was thirty nine. Two students discontinued the course.

The faculty consists of nine teachers and principal and eleven members of non-teaching staff.

Smt. Yamuna guest faculty in Perspective Education transferred to KUCTE Adoor and Smt. Anisha had joined. She left the job due to personal reason. Smt. Neethi S Lal had joined as guest faculty on 20th June 2016 and transferred to KUCTE Kayankulam on 8th August 2016. Smt. Radha had joined on 1st September 2016 had joined duty to fill the gap. Sri. Anoob left the job and Sri Vinayachandran joined on 8th December 2016 and resigned on 24th December 2016. Smt . Saija S.R. transferred to KUCTE, Kunnam & Sri George Mathew had joined duty to fill the gap. Sri Prasanth is newly joined as Asst Professor in Physical Education on 25/4/2017.

The non teaching staff includes

Smt Ramani left the job and Smt. Usha had joined the duty.

College Development Committee (CDC)

College Development Committee general body meeting was conducted on 25thJuly 2016 and executive members were elected. The committee was formed on the guidelines laid by the University. The executive committee consists of Dr. Renuka Sonny L.R., the Principal as President/ Tresurer, Sri. Antony P.S. (Vice President), Sri. Harilal (Auditor), Smt.Deepa Thankappan (Secretary), Sri. Peethambaran, Smt. Lathika, Smt.Alli Anirudhan, Smt. Jaya N.R , Sri. George Mathew (Members). The college development council frequently met to discuss matters related to the college. We get administrative sanction for the MLA fund of Hon. Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Issac (Rs. 90 lakhs) for constructing a building with three storied foundation with four classrooms, Varantha and staircase. The University allowed 9 lakhs rupees for the renovation of B hall on our request. The development fund is being utilized for adding more instructional materials to suit with the NCTE norms. The college utilized CDC fund for the following works:

Installed CCTV camera in the college and examination hall, maintained college website, purchased 3000UPS excel battery, painted college main building and mini hall, subscribed journals in the library, concreted the name board in front of the college, replaced motherboard of computer in the staff room, purchased Hindi books from Jaipur, purchased UPS & USP 16 GB, battery, modem, key board, optic mouse etc in the computer lab, painted MP & MLA fund board, purchased LED tube set in the general hall, purchased materials in connection with performing arts, purchased mathematical instrument set, repaired revolving chair in Principal’s room, purchased microscope in the science lab, installed anti-virus in 15 computers, internet security etc, purchased medicine and materials for first aids, repaired laptop, xerox machine, computer etc, Maintenance of building, Exchanged broken tiles into new one in the general hall, Malayalam class & staff room, Electrical works in general hall, campus cleaning, purchase of trophies & mementoes, preparation of faculty board in the Principal’s room, Purchase of Modem from BSNL, plumbing works and maintenance of pipe , Painted Principal’s room, office room, staff room, replace mother board in the staffroom, cutting the branches of trees shifted the benches and dusks from B hall and proposed constructing building etc. The executive committee members do deserve my gratitude for their sincere participation in the development of the college.

College union election was conducted on 17th August 2016. The following students were elected to the college union.

Adhithya Anirudhan and Timmymol left the college and Chinnu mol and Reshma Vijayan were selected as Arts club secretary and Sports club secretary respectively. I am thankful to union executive for showing much enthusiasm in academic and co-curricular activities.

Academic activities

We start the days academic work with morning assembly in the ground on Tuesday and in the general hall on other days. The class time was from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. The teachers sincerely engaged the classes uninterrupted and did justice to their duty.

Lectures

Research methodology workshop was conducted by Dr.V.Reghu, Dean & Controller of Examinations (Retd.) Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, (RGNIYD) Ministry of Youth Affairs, Govt.of India, Sriperumbudur.

Carrer Guidance class conducted by Adv.Manoj. The programme was conduced by Young mens Library Kottamkulangara

A Workshop was conducted on ‘Modern Strategies’ by Sri.Domanic Asst. Prof: St. Michaels’ College, Cherthala and Sri Joesph, HOD in English ,Naipuniya School of Management.

Life skill class was conducted by Sri. D. Promod, Life skill trainer. Yoga workshop was conducted by Sri Chandra Senan, Yoga Achariyan. Physical Education workshop was conducted by Sri. Bhagath SinghT.V, Asst. Professor, S A M College of Teacher Education, Poothotta, Ernakulam.

Seminar on domestic violent was conducted by Social Justice Department, Alappuzha. Programme was inaugurated by Smt. Deleema Jojo, Vice President,District Panchayat, Alappuzha. Key note address by Sri. Udayakumar, Hon: Sub Judge/Secretary Legal Service Authority, Alappuzha.

An awareness class on domestic violence act 2005 by Advocate Sheeba Rakesh. A.K and Laws on women by Adv. Rajasree.

National science day celebrated with the financial support of KSCSTE & Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Smt Hima was the programme coordinator

Cancer Awareness Programme was conducted by District Medical Office, Alappuzha. Smt Suja , Deputy Media Officer took class on that day.

Co-curricular Activities

College Union inagurated by Sri.Thomas Joesph, Chairman, Alappuzha Municipality. Arts club inaugurated by Smt. Methini (Revolutionary singer) Literary club by Adv.Manoj kumar. Different subject clubs by Sri. K.S Sabu. and sports club by Sri.Sajikumar (canoeing and kayaking coach SAI, Alappuzha).After that students were participated in variety entertainment programs.

We Celebrated Hiroshima day, Farmer’s day, Ozone day etc.

Independence Day was celebrated. Music drama conducted by mathematics optional. patriotc songs by Hindi ,Natural science ,Malayalam, Physical science and skit by mathematics optional.

Teachers’ day celebrated Dr.Chitra N.R .Associate professor and Head (Rtd) St.Joesph College, Alappuzha as chief guest. Aswathi, Anusree, Rahul, Eamily,Sulthana, Remya were presented Papers on different topics.

World literacy day celebrated .We donated 150 story books to Govt.L.P.School Aryad. Reshmi K.R, Athira .S, Bhama Baskar were presented papers on different topics.Quiz competition also conducted.

Onam was celebarated. Onasadhya, Athapookkalam, tug-of-war, musical chair were organized.

Hindi Day Celebrated. Dr. Veena, Asst. Prof. in Hindi, S.D. College, Alappuzha was Chief Guest. Sabimol Villies presented the paper.

Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated. Programme like bhajan, Gandhji Films, ‘No war poster’ pasted in the tree in the college premises etc were conducted. Kappa, Chutney, Chukkukappi, etc. prepared and served in that day.

Human right day celebrated. The debate was conducted on ‘demonitalisation’. Sabimol Villies was the moderator.

New Year was celebrated in a befitting manner. Cakes were distributed.

Tour was conducted to Thumboormuzhi for II year students and Kuttanad for I year students in house boat.

Annual Athletic meet was conducted on 28th February 2017. Sri. Bhagatsingh T.V. Asst. Professor in Physical Education, SAM College of Teacher Education, Poothotta, Ernakulam took salute from the March past. Rahul and Soli Joseph declared as men’s champion and women’s champion. Nehru house secured overall championship and Radhakrishna house secured I runner up in the meet. I am thankful to Sri. Bhagatsingh took much pain to make the event a grand success in the absence of Physical Education teacher in our college.

Literally and arts competitions were conducted under the guideline of Sri. Vinodan Pilakal, Asst. Professor in Visual & Performing Arts. Gandhiji house secured overall championship and Radhakrishna house secured I runner up.

Community living camp

Five days residential Community Living Camp were conducted.

Day 1

Lighting the lamp & Inaugural address of the community living camp by Shri. Thomas Joseph (Chairman, Alappuzha Municipality). Keynote Address by Sri. Varghese Perayil (Syndicate Member, Convenor of KUCTEs, University of Kerala). Felicitations by Sri. Sabu K.A (Ward Councillor, Punnamada), Smt.Parvathy (Ward Councillor, Kottamkulangara), Antony P.S.(CDC Vice President) Smt. Mariamma Thomas (Head Mistress, Govt. H.S.S. Aryad).Sri. T. Jimmy George (Head Master, Govt. L.P. School), Smt. Deepa Thankappan (Asst. Professor in Hindi & Staff Advisor). Presidential Address by Dr.Renuka Sonny L.R ( Principal & General Convenor of the camp).Welcome by Smt. Alli Anirudhan (Asst. Professor in Natural science) and Vote of Thanks by Smt. Shyja J.L (Asst. Professor in Malayalam & Staff Secretary). After the lunch ‘communication’ was taken by Dr. V. Reghu (Former HOD, CACEE, University of Kerala & Faculty Head &Dean (Rtd), Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development, Sreeperumpathur, Tamilnadu, Govt. of India). After the tea break, Sports/ Games/ Drill were conducted. After the Community Dinner, Variety Entertainments were organized.

Day 2

Day started with yoga. Environment day programme was conducted. Welcome by Dr.RenukaSonny.L.R (Principal) and Presidential Address by Sri. Sajid Hussain.V.S (College Union Chairman). Inaugural Address by Dr G. Nagendra Prabhu (Principal Investigator, P.G. Dept. of Zoology & Research, S.D. College, Alappuzha.).He presented paper on ‘wonders from weeds’. Felicitations by Smt.Santhi A Nair (Academic co-ordinator), Smt. Shyja.J L Ameera. A.S. Vote of thanks by Smt. Deepa Thankappan. After that Dr.Shiburaj Sugathan (Senior Scientist, JNTBGRI. Palode, Tvpm) presented paper on sustainable consumption and production. Presentation of papers and deliberations on papers presented. Introducing the guest by Smt.Jaya.N and Vote of thanks by Smt. Hima. H. After the lunch break Dr. Lali.S. (Principal, Chinmaya Vidhyalaya, Alappuzha) presented paper on Environmental protection and nature conservation. Introducing the resource person by Smt. Saija. S. R and Vote of thanks by Sri. Vinodan Pilakkal. Presentation of papers and deliberations on papers presented. Valedictory session inaugurated and Certificate Distributed by Sri. K. Suresh Kumar (Principal, Govt.H.S.S, Aryad, Alappuzha). Presidential Address by Sri.Muhammed Shafeek. A Vote of Thanks by Smt. Alli Anirudhan, Programme Co-ordinator of the seminar.

Day 3

Day started with yoga. Counselling was taken by Ms. Anju Lekshmi (School Counsellor, Govt. H.S. Mannancherry, Alappuzha). Introduced the guest by Smt. Hima and vote of Thanks by Smt. Deepa Thankappan .After the lunch break, an awareness class was taken by fire and rescue service, Alappuzha. Vote of Thanks by Sri. Vinodan Pilakal .After the tea break, physical activities were conducted. After the Community Dinner, Variety Entertainments were arranged.

Day 4

Day started with yoga. Bio vegetable cultivation by Sri. Ajith (Agricultural Officer, Krishi Bhavan, Purakkad, Alappuzha). Introducing the guest by Smt. Alli Anirudhan and Vote of Thanks by Jaya N.R. After that life style diseases by Dr. Sreeja (Senior Medical Officer, Dist. Ayurveda Hospital, Alappuzha). After the lunch break visited Old age home (Santhimandiram, Alappuzha). After that we Visited Alappuzha Beach. After community dinner, environmental Short film “Bhoomikkuru charamageetham” based on O.N.V. Kurup’s poem. After that Nadanpattu arranged. Campfire arranged.

Day 5

After the breakfast Procession related to Environment from KUCTE campus to Talavady Junction and dstribution of saplings & pamphlets to nearby houses.After that valedictory function arranged. Venu Gopal President, District Panchayat, Alappuzha). Renuka(Member, Grama panchayat, Aryad), Sri.Peethambaran (CDC Auditor), Smt. Aswini Ayyappan (Principal, Govt. V.H.S.S. .Jaya N.R. (Asst. Professor in Mathematics & CDC Secretary).Resume of the camp by Smt Hima H (Asst. Professor in Perspective in Education & Camp Co-ordinator) .Vote of Thanks by Smt Alli Anirudhan.

Forty days Teaching practice in third semester and 30 days in fourth semester were conducted in neighborhood high schools utilizing all the facilities and receiving rich and varied guidance and help from the experienced Heads and Teachers of these schools. The practical board of Examination visited the college on 20th &21st February and 20th &21st March 2017, and expressed their full satisfaction on the way the classes were arranged and on the performance of our students. The Board Chairman Dr. Rosamma Philip, Associate Professor, Mount Taboor Training College, Pathanapuram expressed their appreciation on the practical work. Model examinations in each semester were conducted before the University exams mid semester exams also conducted.

Our college as one of the online exam centre for IV semester B,Ed exam. I am thankful to Sri. George Mathew, Asst Professor in Physical Science took much help to me to make the exam a grand success.

Principal, Teachers, non teaching staff and students were participated in the procession in connection with Nehru Trophy Boat race, Punnamada lake and another procession in connection with Alappuzha Revenue district kalolsavam in Govt. H.S.S.Aryad. Our college auditorium was one of the venue for the kalolsavam.

Smt. Deepa Thankappan, Asst.Prof.in Hindi, Smt. Shyja.J, Asst. Prof. in Malayalam, participated in the program conducted by District Legal Service Authority, Alappuzha. Sabimol Villies and Sajid Hussian were selected as Brand Ambassador for special summary revision awareness on enrolment youth election of 18 to 20 age group of college by election commission.

I must thank the University Authorities, Dr. Thomas Issac, The Finance& Coir Minister, Govt. of Kerala, Sri. Thomas Joseph, Municipal Chairman, Alappuzha Municipality, Sri Sabu Punnamada ward councilor, CDC members, Parents above all my dear colleagues, my dearest students, for their unstinted support and co-operation which added more strength, confidence & trust on me in carrying out my duties and responsibilities as Principal.
